THE POWER OF A SIMPLE WALK AS A GENTLE EXERCISE

Exercise doesn’t always have to be about getting breathless and sweaty.

There are gentler forms of exercise that can also make a huge impact on your fitness level.

Walking is a simple, easy, effective and inexpensive way to get your body moving, one that is often overlooked or minimized. It requires no equipment except for a good pair of shoes (even barefoot shoes!), can be done anywhere and can take up as much, or as little of your time as you desire.

In fact, walking can be just as beneficial as any other type of training that improves aerobic fitness, muscular endurance and mental well-being. The only thing you need to add is some strength training and you can do that by adding in some bodyweight squats, push-ups, triceps dips and lunges along your way.

Walking increases fitness levels, endurance and heart health, it's easier on the joints than running, but still strengthens bones, and studies show it's the single most effective activity for people who have lost weight to keep it off… the list goes on.

Walking is not only great for you physically, but also improves your mental wellness. It’s a proven mood booster and significantly relieves anxiety and depression. Studies show walking can even boost creativity.

A simple walk may be what sparks your next “ah-ha” moment or innovative idea. Many of the ideas I’ve had for my courses and business have come from my walks with Cheyenne.

The next time the thought of an intense workout makes you groan, consider taking a walk instead! OR, if you want to push it, consider incorporating intensity into your walk by adding in some fast-paced intervals and converting it into a low-volume HIIT workout.
