What You Need to Know About The Active People, Healthy Nation initiative by the CDC

Many people don’t pay much attention to government guidelines. It’s similar to not listening to your mother when she tells you what’s good for you because it sounds more like a lecture than great advice.

What I don’t want you to miss is The Active People, Healthy Nation initiative by the CDC aimed at helping 27 million Americans become more physically active by 2027.

Having worked 15 years with the Stanford Prevention Research Center and as a health/fitness journalist for 25 years, I have gained the experience to know that national recommendations are firmly grounded in scientific studies and research.

So when they say you will experience more mental clarity and a better mood after only one moderate-intensity exercise session, it’s not just an opinion —- it’s proven and solidly backed up with science!

It’s ironic that many people are drawn to ads that “sell” exercise for weight loss and cut physiques, without ANY facts to guarantee it.

What we DO know is that minimal amounts of activity, even a few minutes every hour, can increase your fitness level. In fact studies show that you will reap many health benefits by spending just ONE hour at the gym, even if you sit for the rest of the day.

We all must make a united effort to model movement to the world especially as tech has taken away more and more of the daily physical work of living.

It doesn’t matter what your age or ability level, we will all benefit from moving more.

So, please for the sake of your health and those near and dear, get more active every chance you get.

How about now? As you read this I invite you to stand up & stretch wherever you are, sitting at your computer, watching TV or just playing on a device. Then comment here to share what you’ve done.

Doesn't that feel better?
